I mainly use the IMDB script when importing info from the web. I always get a lot of | symbols in the entries. How can I get rid of them? Is it possible to create a script that filters out this symbol? I don't have the time to look into writing scripts myself. Does anybody else have this problem?
I was thinking about opening the database in MS Access and doing a search and replace. Is this possible? Would it damage the database?
Thanks, AM |

Hi,
This is really not easy to do. XMM import very much images for every movie (not only one), and if you store all inside the db, it will become really too big.
however, I will try to see if I can do it for future.
Thank you! |

@bobby555 You can configure it, but you should do it before you import the data: configuration --> general --> actor's separator
It's no problem to work with your database in MS Access!
Bye bye Mawu

Yes I have the same problem. The symbol I get all the time is: | before the runtime and tons of them in the reviews. This is one reason I created the Xtropy Chain, because it uses Allmovie info and gets rid of a lot of these bizare symbols. The strange thing is that when you look at the Movie Cards, these symbols don't show. I think they are used to indicate page breaks but it would be really nice to get rid of them. I have tried looking at the scripting side of things but it's a bit beyond my level of understanding and do not have the time to dedicate to fully understand it.
To make a long story short, yes I also get these symbols and I am sure this can be confirmed by anyone running the script. Check the comments and Runtime fields and you will see them.
Anyone care to explain/fix the problem?
Thnx, Xtropy |

1) those characters are the "new line" characters, imdb changed the layout a bit, since the script was updated last time
2) you can get rid of them by adding this character to the #SUBSTITUTEWORD#-statement
3) if you're too lazy, you can download the fixed script (i really added just this one line) http://137.226.147.185:8000/imdb-script-12-05-2004.rar
btw. the "|"-characters (actors field) are not the new line characters, but just the actor separators defined in EMM config and are _not_ added by the script |

Thanks for the help!!
eb1: I'll be trying out your script as soon as I burn another movie.
Mawu: I'll install MS Access then and try and get rid of the |'s in the 600+ movies I have..
Unless someone has a better solution..?

I wish I did Bob. I went through each movie and cleaned up a lot of stuff, including removing the | 's from various areas. I wanted to manually input information into each movie anyway so it wasn't a big deal (thus why I didn't post). I think using Access and doing a Find --> Replace and selecting | 's with nothing in the replace field would be your best bet. I would try and stick to certain fields though because you could really mess up the actors field if you do an entire replace. The | 's need to be in the actors field.

Yes, I think it will be very easy to do a very little application to clean the database of the |'s except the actor's field. Maybe the next week I will do it if I have time during revision time before exams.
