I've tried on several occasions to import more than one film at a time. However when I do this, the Add Film dialog returns showing only one of the films, and as far as I can see that film is the only one in the entire database. Even clicking on the tab marked Entire Movie Collection, just that one film appears, not the other ones which I selected to import. Why is this ???

Hi,

Please sorry for my delay!

If I have understand correctly, you cannot add movies in your database? You have only one movie and if you want add another one nothing happens?

Sorry if I didn't explain the problem more clearly.

When adding movies, the dialog states "click on one or more files to import these". Clicking on just one movie title works OK, and that movie will be displayed.

However, clicking on more than one movie title at a time results in just one of the selected movies being displayed, and aside from the fact that the others aren't displayed, I don't know whether they've actually been added to the database.

I'm still experiencing the same problem, even using v7: if I click on 'Add movies', and query one or other of the databases, I use the facility to 'Click on one or more movies, and press 'Start'. After the import of all the selected movies is complete, the 'Save' dialog appears for the last selected movie, and only that one. All the other movies selected don't appear in the Main Grid, and there is no way of knowing whether they have been added to the database, even though they were apparently imported.

Hi Guys,

Please be sure there is no filter active (you can see it at bottom of the grid).

My english is terrible, this is why maybe I haven't understand correctly.

Do you have problems in adding movie to database (I mean, press add movie button, save & exit and the movie is NOT in the database)

or

do you have problem in importing movies from Internet with scripts?

Do you know already the 6.x or this is the first time you download XMM?

Sorry for all these questions but I need to understand if there is a bug somewhere.

Ale

Hello again,

In answer to your question, I've been using XMM for some time now, both versions 6.x and 7.x

Sorry if my description of the problem isn't very clear; the process of adding just one movie (using a script) works OK

The problem occurs when I select more than one movie to add to the database,

when I do that only the last movie appears in the grid, and it would seem that only that movie is added to the database.

Hi Alessio,

I'll try to make the problem a bit clearer.

If I import just one movie from any of the Internet databases and press save or save/exit, the movie is added to the database as normal.

However, if I want to import more than one movie at a time from an Internet source, and click on the movies I want to import, XMM goes through the usual process of downloading each of the movies, but when I press save or save/exit, only one of the movies (the last one) appears in the main grid.

The only way to get round this is to import each movie separately, which can take some time.

Is it possible to import more than one movie at a time, and add them all to XMM's listing ??

Hi Guys ;)

I have tried to import and to re-import movies 3 ways:
1. existing movies by "Open Update-Manager" in Main Menu
2. "Adding movies" in Main Menu -> Internet Update
3. "Adding Movies" in Main Menu -> Search Movie in Internet
All ways didn't show any error on my pc.
Only difference between way 2 and way 3 that dazzled me a little bit was that with way 3 the Edit window is opened and the Update-Manager was shut after import. I think that this could be the problem for Ken...

Hi Guys,

Usually I add all movies in the database (by scanning CD/DVD) or by adding it manually (bust just the title, nothing more)

When I have finish, I select all movies to import from the Main Grid and I press the "Quick Update Selected" button in the toolbar.

XMM will automatically show you the script you want use and you can start to import all these movies.

This is the best way I think to import more than one movie from internet.

Well, Ale, I always add the titles first and then update them later... like you do.
I only have tested the other ways to check for Ken's problem.
Therefore the question: why does pressing the "Search Movie in Internet" button on the "Add Movie" dialogue opens the movie's edit window? Shouldn't it be same routine as "Internet Update" at the top of the same window?

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

No,no, the button "Search Movie in Internet" is under the "add movie", so this button is for ADD a movie and then search the info from internet.

I try to explain better.

If you press "ADD Movie" it open the edit window with all field shown.

if you press "Search movie in internet" it open the edit window with all fields are not visible. In this case you have to just write the title and press the big button at center to start import info from internet.

Note: this is exactly the same thing of pressing "Add movie", write title, and press the button in the toolbar to search movie from internet.

I think we have talked pass each other...
The "Add Movie" dialogue has two buttons to get info of the new typed movie title. At first the button "Internet Update" at the top menu bend of the dialogue and second the big button "Search Movie in Internet" right under the movie title.
When I now press Update the movie infos are loaded and you can decide to add another title.
Search Movie instead jumps into the editor (like double clicking a movie in Main Grid), loads all info and then exits the "Add Movie" dialogue to stay in movie's editor.
Am I right with these functions?

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

I've tried that method. Entering a word which is contained in the movies does add them correctly, but only if that word is present in all of those movies. For example, entering the word "kwai" displays a list of movies which includes "Bridge On The River Kwai", but the list also includes "Guns of Navarone".

I then selected both of these, to see if both movies would be imported, but only "Guns of Navarone" was added to the main grid, and even then it contained the cover belonging to "Bridge on the River Kwai", which wasn't added to the database.

On examining the "Guns of Navarone" movie, I found a reference to the "Bridge on the River Kwai" in the plot of the movie. I think XMM searches the WHOLE movie, not just the title, for the word input into the edit window.

I've upgraded to version 7.0.3.3, but the problem is still occurring. When I want to add a particular movie to the database,I click on Input Movie, and input the title, or part of the title. Selecting one or more of the list of available scripts, I am presented with a list containing not just that particular title, but any movie which has that particular word somewhere in it, not just in the title itself.

This is a useful thing however, since the list might include one or more movies which I also want to add to the listing. Unfortunately the original problem still exists - if I select more than one movie at a time, only one of these movies will be added to the database. The only way to avoid this problem is to add each movie separately, which can be a time-consuming process.

Hi Kencr,

Now I think I have understand what do you mean.

If you select more than ONE movie xmm simply MERGE it! It will not add 2 or more movies!

When you import info for one movie, XMM will import the information ONLY FOR THAT Movie.

So, if you select more than one directlinks XMM will join it.

This is the "philosophy" of the MagicScript engine. With this for example, you can select in the same time the IMDB and AMAZON Script and then merge the information of both websites.

I am sorry, but this is how the MagicScript works and i really cannot change it...

Hi Alessio,

Sorry to keep going on about this, but the 'Add Entry' implies that it is possible to click on more than one movie, and add esch one of those movies to the database.

If I understand your last reply, clicking on the same title from different scripts (e.g. IMDB, DVDEMPIRE) would merge the information from those scripts together, and not add them to the database as separate movies.

However, the problem occurs even if only one script is used. For example, clicking on four movies with different titles results in just one of those titles being added to the database.

Hi Ken,

Yes, you have understand correctly, the information will be merged.

If you select 4 movies to import, in the top-left you should see a grid with 4 movie titles, and XMM, for every title, will let you select the directlinks that will be merged toghether.

The question is : there are 4 movies in this grid at top-left? becaus if there is only one movie, this means that you are importing only one movie and not 4

Hi Ale,

Regarding your comments about merging some of the direct links, in this case the titles in question are new ones which don't exist in the database, and shouldn't be merged with anything.

In the grid you mentioned, the 4 titles selected do appear, but only one of them is added to the database - as I said, I'm trying to add new movies to the database, not merge them with other ones.

Hi,

You cannot add movies to database with the import procedure.

You must first add movies to database (manually, by scanning hard disks, CD/DVD, from TXT files etc...) and then you can import the information from internet.

Yep, I do that all the time.
Simply search your hard drive for the movie (or have that drive set to scan automatically for new movies) and it will ask you if you want to add the movies.
Say yes and they will be in the database.
Then do a sort by year, genre or any other field that will be blank for the new movies. They will be at the top after your sort...highlight all of them and right click and select Quick update selected.
The script will then query the info and fill in your details.
But you MUST add them to the database first before importing the info into the database...A little practice and it becomes intuitive :-)
