When I add a new movie to the database, the cover images are displaying as broken links -

Try to right-click on the X-Image and choose Properties. In the Dialog take a look if the URL beginning with: file:// is valid.

For example it could be a problem with a special char in the URL-Path.

For some reason, XMM is not recognizing new images as JPEGs, even though they are, in fact, images in normal JPEG format. As I said, this is only happening with new entries, but it's happening with ALL new entries. A right-click/properties on an old entry's picture shows that it's recognized as a JPEG -

Properties of a new entry shows the file type as "Not available" -

Any ideas how to fix this?

Try activating IrfanView. Maybe that solves your problem.

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

Installing Irfanview and making it the default handler of JPEG (and all other image files) did not solve the problem.

No, not installing irfanview. In the settings there is an option to de/activate the irfan functions that are provided with XMM.

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

I see what you mean now. Selecting that option within XMM and re-starting the program did not fix the problem, I'm afraid.

Hello,

Please try to add a new movie with the option of Irfanview enabled. Just to know if works with the new entries.
