= Would be cool to have it.
= Needed to have for better workflow.
  = Desperately needed!
Hello dear Alessio, hope you are fine.
I've been gathering some thougts over the past days and I collected these wishes, which I sincerely belive would carry XMM a couple of steps further in quality;
-- NEW FEATURE suggestions --
- Movie Tagging (seperated with commas)
quote: Mawu: filter by tags
quote: Mawu: boxset feature also for TV series
-- Suggestions for "Editing" --
 CTRL+E shortcut for editing.
Shared / Common info between the edited movies are written in multiple editing. (Like with a "greyed out" font, currently all field are empty in multiple editing.
Drop-down "friends" menu for the "Last Loan" field.
Drop-down menu for CatalogNo field or CatalogNo (or any info would be better) autofill as we type.
Catalog Numbers can be seperated by commas. (This is for tagging purposes)
More than 11 Custom Fields, may be a second page or something. (Wished: 01-04-2009)
-- Suggestions for the interface --
Keyboard shortcut for "Random Movie" selection (Blue box below the grid).
"ESC" key closes dialog windows (import, edit etc.)
Custom sorting options for the shelves and the thumbnail view.
In the script selection window, double clicking the SCRIPT starts the import proccess.
"Do not eject DVD" option to save itself.
- A savable option for, "Searh hard disk for movies" import dialog window to close automatically, after the import
Unicode support for the MovieCard page rendering.(Wished: 25-02-2009)
Save more than one Cutsom View / Grouping by for the left panel. (Wished: 01-04-2009)
-- Suggestions for "Database Statistics" --
Director and Actor statistics; who has the most movie number? May be limited to "At least 3 movies", otherwise all the actors should be rendered.
Interactive results; clicking on a result (Country Name, Genre etc.) loads the related movies in the main grid.
-- Suggestions for "My TV Shows" --
Episodes can be updated from a direct link.
"Location" and "Media Label" fields for each episode.
Unicode Character support for "Season Number" field, so we can use words like "Special", instead of using season number "0".
OR we can use it for "TV Channel" seperator for themed channel shows too: We can write the channel name to the TV SHOW (i.e. National Geographic), write the show to the episode title (i.e. "Nomads: Windsurfing Hawaii") and write the genre to the season field (i.e. "People & Places"). So when we go the TV Shows tab it should look like this: National Geographic>>People & Places>>Nomads: Windsurfing Hawaii.
Renaming of"Custom Field"'s title in tv shows.(Custom1, Custom2... to something else).
-- Suggestions for "My Entire Collection" --
Integration of "Media Label" column into "My Entire Collection" tab and / or custom column editing (Field manager).
Multiple Editing in "My Entire Collection" tab.
"Categories" in "My Entire Collection" tab. (Wished: 25-02-2009)

quote: + One upper level for TV shows, for things like Channels & special events like Olypmpic Games
I would suggest a boxset feature also for TV series as an upper sort level
quote: Movie tagging (seperated with commas)
I would like to see a tagging feature as it is realized in dvd profiler, where you can also filter by tags

Hey glad you did a suggestion Mawu, a box set feature spesific for the shows would be great, you're right.
And for the tagging, I don't know any other movie softwares out there but I can absolutely go with a "Lightroom" kind of tagging. Or is that too much? :)
Exampling from different programs, here's another one; When multiple editing, it would be perfect to see the shared info like in Winamp, so that way we don't have to type it again, if it's already the same. :D And CTRL+E for editing in the grid, would really speed up some proccess. |

I think we have to differentiate. With Lightroom or other similar software you can tag the photos directly with EXIF, IPTC or XMP standard. Infos are stored within the photo file itself and can be read by Lightroom or other software. Similar with ID3-tag for mp3. If I understand you correctly you want to have integration of a functionality that is found for example in a program like abcAVI Tag Editor (http://scriptbcavi.kibi.ru/): You can edit a movie file on a hard disk with specific tags (with data already in xMM database) and you can read the tags within an avi-file and store the data in xMM.
Profiler has an other way of tagging as it's only for dvd/blu-ray media. Here unlimited hierarchal tags can be assigned to any group of DVDs and you can divide and sub-divide the movie collection as you like it. See: http://www.dvdprofiler-forum.de/faq.php?mode=profiler#8 (sorry it's in german, but I think you can see what I mean). |

No, no my dear friend Markus;
Writing tags to the files isn't what's on my mind. What I meant is the "unlimited hierarchal" (and linear of course) tags, as you said AND the functionality to auto-fill as you type.
Also I belive Lightroom doesn't store the keywords in EXIF's, but in it's own database. Because that's what lightroom is famous about; "not touching the original"... But I'm not sure.. and it doesn't matter I assume, since we don't mean it.
But I looked at the link you gave and it seems they've done a quite good tagging system there.
Maaan, Lightroom has such an advanced tagging / keywording system...I admire them more and more as I think about it.
Anyways, however it may be, a tagging system would be very functional and people would use it however they want. Personaly I don't give catalog numbers but Titles... Like "HD Movies", "HD Shows", "People Catalog - Director", "People Catalog - Actor" etc. So in tagging I would create a tag name called "People Catalog" and then create two sub tags as "Director" and "Actor"... Or you know, I can give tags like "R5", "Bad Audio", "Screener" whatever we want.
But the most important reason I wish for tagging is; giving MULTIPLE Catalog names. Currently we can't give more than one catalog number, but at least we can use words for that field though. |

Hi Guys,
Thank you for the suggestions and their "relevance".
Since I am building the new XMM, surely also the Database will have some modifications.
Basically I have in mind to store the Movies and TV Shows in the same table (now the tv shows has their own table). With this, the TV Shows will have the Boxsets feature automatically, and you will be able to see movies and tv shows in the main grid (like the actual My collection, that probably I will delete).
Episodes and Actors of course will continue to have own tables.
As I wrote in another topic the menu will be replaced with Ribbon interface. I will soon post some images about how will look like, so you can send ideas and suggestion.
With the new interface will be more easy print the collection and export the grid, in formats like rtf, html, pdf, all automatically.
There will be also the possibility to create complex filters and save it.
Stay tuned!
Alessio

Hi Alessio,
nice to hear that we'll get a new xMM.

But you have to take into account that the boxset feature for movies merges miscellaneous movies whereas for series only seasons or episodes have to put together. By putting movies and series together you may consider not deleting the my collection but using it as a main view (own tabs for movies/series/actors only optional). However, for this a more powerful treeview modul should be used

Nice idea. I liked the ribbon interface in Office 2007. However, in xMM this ribbon should not be so broad than in Office.
quote: With the new interface will be more easy print the collection and export the grid, in formats like rtf, html, pdf, all automatically. There will be also the possibility to create complex filters and save it.
Very promising. by re-designing xMM you maybe can eliminate some other weak points: 1. Database structure: - by putting movies and series in one table hopefully the full set of data fields is also available for series. - boxset feature is well integrated, but multi-disc movies not at all (only data field for numbers of discs)- important e.g. for special edition dvds (see my suggestions in wishlist or older postings - http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2366) - some fields concerning audio can be merged and extended, manual input can also be improved (see http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2366)
2. Movie Cards: now we have at least four different movie cards vailable (normal, two different(x)html, activation card, templates in shell view and in my entire collection); please reduce it to one!
3. sorting/filters: I'm very curios about this. Please try to take suggestions on the wish list into account. Maybe you can integrate a dvd profiler like tagging feature.
Bye Byte and Happy Coding
p.s.: Maybe a beta test is useful to check the upcoming 7.0 thoroughly.

Hi Mawu,
Of course I will need beta testers to check the new XMM quality and functions, but I am not ready yet ( basically nothing works at this time )
I have in mind to reduce the moviecards to only one type (of course actors will have it's own actorcard) and the "My Collection" will became the main, without the others. I don't know if will be possible make this but I will try.
I don't know if remove or not the quickedit (without it XMM will be more quick because there will be less controls to load in the main window). Any suggestion will be appreciated
There are tons of things to do, but the main goal is to make the GUI as simple as possible, this because the old one was really complex for beginners.
Please write your ideas and suggestions. I know that having a beta in your hand will help you make suggestions, I will try to prepare it in few weeks.
Thank you guys!
