I switched to Vista because of the MCE / Video Browser features.
Looks very cool, nice work AV!
Using Video Browser 1.2.0.0

Have 2 vexing problems and could not find any references in the forum:
- All movies show in MCE, but when I select a movie I see two copies of the same movie when there is really only one movie (and one file per movie)
- When I click to play, I get "Cannot Play Video. One or more codecs required to open this content could not be found."

I did do a "re-initialize Media Center" to try to clear the double entries. (didn't clear my problem)
Each movie is a single mpeg2 file and they play just fine in XMM, WMP, VLC, PDVD8, etc. All necessary codecs are loaded and all movies are playing just fine everywhere except in MCE.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi satpilot!

I am try to fix the problem of double entries asap, it's a bug.

What you can do is manually delete all folders inside the "_mediacenterdir" subfolder of your database and then re-initialize MCE again (it will rebuild all folder and subfolders.

Please let me know!

That worked! Thanks!

Now I'm down to one problem:
- When I click to play in MCE, I get "Cannot Play Video. One or more codecs required to open this content could not be found."

Anyone?

Found a cool tool to helps you get control of VMC codec settings.
Try the original: http://www.whittakermoore.com/VMCD.exe

Still, that did not solve my problem.
In MCE, after selecting a movie, if I right click the icon and select VIDEO DETAILS, then PLAY from the next menu, I get:

"Cannot Play Video
Windows Media Center cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline."

So VMC is confused - which one is it, a codec problem or a location problem?

I look at the files in "_mediacenterdir" and they are pointing to the correct drives/locations. I can double-click the file(s) inside that folder and the movie starts playing.

I think the problem is with Video Browser.

Well, after wasting half a day on this, I finally figured it out.
It was a codec problem.
Loaded ffdshow and now VMC is playing all my videos (finally!)

Hi!

I have read you post just now, I am happy that now all works correctly.

I still have problems with release 1.3.2.0 of Video Browser, but I think it's a Video Browser problem because VB hangs completely.

I have wrote to authors and they answer me they will try to fix in the next release.

I still suspect Video Browser issues as I still have random "codec" error messages when I should not have any.
I understand now that PDVD8 and DiVX codecs can have negative effect on MCE/VMC performance and "codec" error messages.
MSDN has some pages talking about changing the merit of DirectShow filters to prevent codec-errors in MCE/VMC.
This is a tool to change merit:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/RadLight_Filter_Manager.htm

This is must-read for users with codec problems:
Guide to Codecs in Vista Media Center
http://msmvps.com/blogs/chrisl/scriptrchive/2007/07/21/1046591.aspx

I'll continue to research this until I have a more stable VMC.
Love the cool interface but I'm not impressed with the technology.
That's why people buy Apple...

Hope that Video Browser improves.

Thank you very much Satpilot!

Have you already try the release 1.3.2 of Video Browser? The interface is much better but unfortunately you cannot play movies of XMM.

What is, in your opinion, one of the best medie center software? Maybe will be possible make an "export" utility.
