Extreme Movie Manager 5.7.6.0 Windows Version: XP SP1 P4 HT 2.4GHz 1GB DDR-RAM PC400
After I add a new movie into my database using imdb script, i go to read files, then read codecs of selected files (no options activated). For the first entry after opening EMM it works fine, but when i enter the second movie into the database and then "read codecs of selected files" EMM doesn't read the codec information and it crashes at some point after that. |

at the moment i have to open and close EMM after every file i read. is it possible that SP1 of XP is the problem? Do i need SP2? |

Hi,
Sorry for my late reply but I was out for work.
I have try it again now and I cannot find the error. What I did is this:
Add a movie, in the EDIT window I have read a file.
I have then press the "save button", then "new" button, and I have read codecs also for this second file. XMM is not freezed.
Please write me your sequence.
Thank you and sorry!

hello I use EMM on Windows Vista Ultimate and have the same identical problem, when I add my DVD-R with within 5-6 Divx the program jams with an irreversible error, this with all the versions end relased here, modernization after modernization the problem I remain. I have tried on more installations but always equal. The program has large problems also on Windows XP SP2 in some configurations. Fairies please more tests and please you resolve the problem, Thanks. |

I've got some bad news. I had to deinstall XP SP2 because i got bluescreens (always been that way with SP2, not the first time i tried it).At least now I know that the error must be something that SP2 changes in Windows. Have you got any clue to what that could be Alessio?
ok so i create a new database entry, use imdb fastest script, then read the codec values for the movie file. then i save and exit. everything is still fine! then i create another new movie entry, use imdb (Fastest) script again, then select files, read codecs from file, i choose a file, press read codecs, then the window just disappears, no values are entered for codec values in the movie window. sometimes it crashes then and sometimes i can still press save&exit (but no codec vaulues entered), then pressed refresh in EMM and then it gave me "F3" and "F1" errors. now its loading the grid but doesnt go on, just "loading grid values". whenever i read codec values for a second file -> crash & errors. As i said same PC with SP2 -> no problemo. Any idea? |

Sorry guys for my late reply!
I will make more tests under windows XP, but it's really strange the complete "crash" of XMM, because the Error detectin engine should prevent this.
Thank you,
Alessio |

ok i have gathered some more info, i hope this helps and you can solve it:
the first time i read the file codecs, everything is fine, i can also save&exit that window. Then when i read codecs for another file, i either get the error * at the bottom in EMM "! this version of the dll is not compatible" and/or "attempted to read or write protected memory".
sometimes after that last * EMM completely disappears, and sometimes there is an error window asking me whether i want to send the error report to microsoft with this cause:
"AppName: extreme movie manager.exe AppVer: 5.7.7.0 AppStamp:45f409af ModName: mscorwks.dll ModVer: 2.0.50727.42 ModStamp:4333e7ec fDebug: 0 Offset: 0000450b"

I may be wrong, but somehow i doubt that these crashes under XP SP1 and Vista have the same cause. My problem with XP SP1 must have something to do with something that changed in XP SP2. All the same, the crashes occur the second time a file codec is read in EMM. Any news Alessio? Have you tried what i described under Windows XP SP1? Do those error *s i mentioned mean anything to you? |

I have always had these problems with version 5,x of EMM. I am now forced to use it as IMDB has changed and no one has updated scripts for 4.7 anymore (which I was very happy with and worked well).
I use XP SP1 too. EMM 5.x has ALWAYS had problems reading files from hard disk whether to add a movie, TV series and now exhibits the same problems when trying to read codec info.
I add a movie (or anything to do with disk access) then exit EMM, then go back into EMM again, access disk operation, exit EMM, back into EMM, access disk operationm, exit EMM...... you get the idea. Very frustrating to use.
I always assumed it's because all my files are on a file server and having to be read across a network, obviously local disks present the same problem.
Looks like the disk access sub-system/toutines need to be heavily debugged across XP SP1 and SP2 and Vista. Making this your top priority would be good for many of your users Alessio.
Cheers, Laffer. |

I have forget to ask you a thing: when you read files, do you "Extract frames from movie files" too?

Adding files, EMM with XP SP1, works now! I have read several files without having to close the program. thank you!! Will report back after a long term test.
Probably unrelated to the update, but the amazon script didn't work every time today. had to try 2-3 times until i got the cover. |

Ok, given this a fair hammering this weekend and it seems to work - yay! :) Thanks Alessio.
Still waiting patiently for other stuff...... seems strange that you have the code to re-read codecs but is awkward to use...... Why not just take the filename off the currently selected movie record in the database rather than having to select the file again from scratch? Also when will the global re-read become available?
Have played with the TV series functionality too - is this still sort of beta as it seems very clunky when compared to the movies side of things, just one example - no play button.
Cheers,
Laffer. |
