Hi Alessio,
Merry Christmas!
Here is what I have so you can understand the wish: I have a nice file box with lots of numbered DVD sleeves. To find DVD's in here easily, I need to write the sleeve number in XMM (Catalog number will work nicely). Bit the DVD's generally need to stay in their numbered sleeve. I don't want to move them around when I add new titles, so here is what I wish:
- a re-numbering of SELECTED titles (I can order by insert date and easily select new titles for numbering that way).
- The re-numbering routine must take a start number!!! (it might even suggest the next highest number it thinks appropriate, but still needs to accept user input as final [I have my box in sections and won't always be sequential])
- ideally, the routine would assign numbers appropriately for titles that had "disk number" greater than 1. (So if "Harry Potter alkazan" has 2 disks, it might be assigned catalog number 162, but the next title in the selction would be assigned 164 (leaving space for both disks in my numbered sleeves) (a sticky (programs remembers last setting) checkbox option for "allow space for multiple disks" would make the routine more vesatile)
- if the renumbering routing was in a right-click menu (of numbered fields), your users could use any number field for the routine (including user added). alternatively, the routine could present a list of available fields and always remember the last choice. |

The forum wouldn't let me edit my own post again, so I had to reply.
Thinking about episodes and Xvid disks, what would be really cool is if the user could enter a fraction into the "number of disks" field. So if your standard TV episode disk contains 4 episodes, you could enter 1/4 on each episode so the re-numbering routine would know to assign the same number to all 4.
So for example, we have one title selected with 2 disks, four titles each with 1/4 disks, and one title with "nunber of disks" at the default of 0. A total of 6 selections. Given a starting number of 173, the first selected title would receive the number 173, the next would receive the number 175, the third:175, fourth:175, fifth:175, and the sixth: 176.
Ideally, the routine would check to see that when a fraction was encountered, it was followed by an appropriate number of identical fractions, otherwise allerting the user to a problem. You wouldn't even need to program with fractions in the code if the routine used the "/" as a special character! (for marking this the title as special numbering treatnment and specifying the number of disks to receive the same number) |
