Hi,

I have a question about web impoting.

I'm using version 5.2.8.0 all 1100+ movies in my database have all their information impoted from imdb.com, in last 3-4 years.

I'm playing with the new import utilities to learn them. As I understand, I must first import "directlinks" for all the movies, only then I can start importing real info. I have no problem with that.

But suppose I already imported all directlinks for all movies. Then several days later, I wanted to make a database wide update from my regular site (imdb.com). Plus I wanted to update only some of the fields, but also wanted to make some other hand filled fields (like meida language and subtitles) remain as they were before. And I don't want to download any mor pictures since I already have them.

In the old system, during the days of version 4 and below, I could do that just by unchecking some boxes to tell the import engine which fields it will import and which fields it will not thouch, then it was working just as I told it.

For the new system, both available approaches returned with no desired results. If I start with import wizard, it allows me to choose wich fields to update in the following setup page after the "grid" page, but as soon as I start impoting, it again starts trying to import "directlinks" although they are already imported, and unchecking "clear all direct links" option is not working.

If I start directly from "batch import" since directlinks are already in place, it starts automatically, without allowing me to choose which fields not to import. Starts importing everything.

Could you please tell me how can i do the job that i described in italic pharagraph above?

Thnaks and best regards,

Selçuk

teo additional comments:

In the edit window, in movie tab, there was a small button with a red arrow which transfers original title into movie title, which is missing in version 5.x.

In the edit window, in files tab, there was a small button besides covers field which allows you to browse in an image display window, which is missing in version 5.x.

Hi Sgore,

You are right, at this time there is no way for do what you wrote. When you use the batch import for second time you canno select the fields to import, so XMM imports it again.

The only thing you can do at this time is to decide if replace or not the old imported information: simply check/uncheck the "When importing, add new values only to blank fields..."

I will try to find a solution for your problem.

Thank you!

Thank you very much Alessio, especially for your quick reply.

Another question about a similar issue. I accepted to get the direct links everytime I do an update, but what can I do to choose which fields to update and which fields not to? I unchecked many small boxes in the "fields to install with selected script" in the secod page in import wizard (the page after "populating the grid") but after getting direct links, when it starts importing real data, it starts importing and updating every field. Is there anything that I can do to import only the fields that i selected? It was looking like working when i did the first 50 or so movies...but stated not working when i try to update a second batch of 50-100 movies.

Thanks and best regards,

Selçuk

Hi,

You must decide witch field to import in the same window where you select the script (right-bottom). Only here you can select the fields. I am sorry, I know that is very annoying

The problem is, although I deselect many fields since I don't want them to be updated, program insists on updating them.
