The problem of the "speed" is not related to the database, but to the "treeview" control.

In the past (DivxManager 0.9) I was using not a "tree" but a simple "List" and the startup time was just one second also for large databases (I have make tests with 30.000 movies).

However I have decided to switch to the tree because many users want it to better show movies and subcategories.
