Posted - 07 Feb 2003 : 10:01:10 Your help file says: The CONSTANT #MOVIE# contains directly the movie you are looking for, you can use this in any part of the script.
I have tried to use this in an #OPENNEWWEB# statement but it doesn't work...gives an error.
I have tried to do like this: #STRING#=#50#=http://www.divxsubtitles.net/page_searchedsubtitles.php?_language=2&_format=-1&_date=-1&_grade=-1&_character=-1&_free=#MOVIE#
#OPENNEWWEB#=#50#
The variable #50# get this value: http://www.divxsubtitles.net/page_searchedsubtitles.php?_language=2&_format=-1&_date=-1&_grade=-1&_character=-1&_free=#MOVIE#
Is this a bug or am I doing it wrong...
I'm using eXtreme Movie Manage 1.1 build 2

Posted - 16 Apr 2003 : 17:22:46 Ok, after this is subject has been discussed quite exhaustingly, I try to get back to my question;-)
How come, I can put DVDID, VHSID, but not BOXID in a custom moviecard? Or what is the name for the variable to do this? I can sort all the movies by BOXID, so I should be able to list it on the right side?
Thanks,
Randy |

"I prefer not to talk about the Divx part: very few people use this format in complete compliance with the law." => In GERMANY and UK (of course) we have currently a court-decision __ made by EU-Laywers!!!! __ This decision contains the following:
1. "Every OWNER of a legally bought DVD or other media IS ALLOWED to make COPIES for OWN use and EVEN ALLOWED to give up to 5!!! COPIES away to friends WHEN he does NOT TAKE MONEY FROM THEM!!!!!!!!"
2. "EVERYBODY is ALLOWED also to make COPIES from DVDs or other media he has LENT FROM A VIDEO-RENTAL!!!!! ...BUT this ONLY FOR PRIVATE USE! = NO COPIES TO FRIENDS!"
"EMM is far beyond the fringes of legality, and your users are paying 10$ for something that may be banned, overnight, by justice court decision." => eMM is made by EUROPEANS for EUROPEANS (mainly)!!! __ eMM FULLY fits the EUROPEAN LAWS!!! __ @ALL = THIS is one reason to NOT make HTML-DB "Shoppable" !!!
EVERYBODY outside EU = use it at your own risk! ...EVERYBODY should know WHAT he is doing and should know WHAT rights he has in his country!!!
so long... and it really seems = WITHOUT ME (in this forum) A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN'T LIVE!!! ...hehehe

Posted - 11 Apr 2003 : 09:36:26 Hi,
I must specify a thing : "Ripping" movie information is not a crime. The Staff of IMDB agree this kind of thing : they only want that we write "where" scripts takes information (and this is done because the name of script start with IMDB etc...), so please don't write that this is not a "legal" thing.
For example : if you want see some information for a movie that you haven't on your collection you will not add it into XMM and import info, you simply go to IMDB and look for it.
As you can see, all movie managers import information from IMDB because is legally!
About Divx : this is another thing, of course few people use this in compliance with the law, but you cannot say that we "break the law", because this is absolutely not true.
What can you say about software that in few step can make DVD->DIVX conversion? or software that can reproduce CD->MP3? or software that CLONE DVD? as you should know, these software are absolutely legally!
XMM is only a movie manager, for personal use only.
So please don't write things that you don't know like that our users pay for a not-legally software.

I'm surprised to ear you so fussy about legality and respect of other's intellectual property.
What EMM does is ripping data from IMDb and other sites, without showing the ads that make them live, and overloads their servers with such things as "massive download". What kind of licence package did you buy from them ? Bronze, gold or platinum ? None, of course ! Did you even get in touch with IMDb staff ? I know you didn't !
I prefer not to talk about the Divx part: very few people use this format in complete compliance with the law.
EMM is far beyond the fringes of legality, and your users are paying 10$ for something that may be banned, overnight, by justice court decision. |

WHY haven't you your origin mentioned on the left? = UK ...your little brother seems not to be ashamed coming from UK! ...hehe
I grew up with "The One" = an english (the best of course) AMIGA-MAG! ...had all over the years good contacts to english coders... ...still have some friends in London...
...and now it seems (to me) having one more contact to the UK! (without knowledge at first)
but enough offtopic now...

READ CAREFULLY: "Original design by PurpleBytes" "Aditions / enhancements / colors / whatever by XXX"
As long as the original designer / author / whatever IS mentioned... EVERYTHING IS ABSOLUTELY OK!!!
...and if you have changed something... I URGE EVERYBODY to mention that HE has changed this or that!!! (don't want to be blamed for bad color-picks ...hehehe)
I personally RESPECT other peoples work as long as they respect mine!

have you downloaded the moviecards from SpaceAce ? Things like that = we ever will accept!
Example: "Original design by PurpleBytes" "Aditions / enhancements / colors / whatever by XXX"
But is it really that hard TO SHOW RESPECT to other peoples work?
@Pie Master "This is true..... he has been working ALL day fixing computers which shouldnt have to be fixed." => following this = you know each other!? (don't tell me that YOU are Akiras' little brother ...hehe)

Posted - 28 Mar 2003 : 00:13:37 @Memtronic I am very sorry.. I've been incredibly worn down over the last couple of days. I missread what you had written. I am incredibly grateful to you for the ability to use the stars. (And so is rusty who has been sent my card on request). I would offer my card as one of the downloadable ones but as it is almost entirely your work I did not feel this would be right. Once again my most sincere appologies. |

Especially from you I am a little disappointed!
YOU wrote: "I am sorry you took offence to my question."
but I wrote: "...yes "you" don't want it for things like that... BUT a lot of other people simply get a very easy way for misuse! Sorry if you are one of those restricted accidently!!!"
...and YOU = already HAVE something "personal" made it's way into HTML-DB!
@Wizard_X "but... its not all on the movie card... not all the actors... all the info and notes are on the cards that get exported..." => YES! ...what are you awaiting?
HTML-DB WAS NEVER MENT A REPLACEMENT FOR eMM ITSELF!!!
HTML-DB provides a FAST and "as much info as possible AT ONCE" OVERLOOK over your collection! NOTHING ELSE!!!
For data-management and detailed info = you have eMM...
"well, there might be some things I dont know, whatever you were saying about ripping and boards, didnt get that part..." => I already HAVE seen misuse of HTML-DB! (selling-catalog for rips) __ But sure I will not point you to that sites! ...yes read PLURAL
Someone having rips is one thing... SELLING them to others a TOTALLY DIFFERENT! ...and THAT we never will support!
and if you believe me or not = is all up to you...
"some people have special needs (for example my location need)..." => are you having demenzia? ...I already told you that it will be there in future! __ ...mhh... you are searching hard for arguments, right???
"some people have special needs" => YES! always!!! ...and that are the people buying a 1.500 dollar expensive gfx-app __ instead of the "simple" one for just 30,-
WHAT do you want me to say? "ok... HTML-DB is free but I will turn it into something companies would pay hundreds of dollars for..." IS IT THAT?
...and guys... we are discussing here... not killing each other! ...even if it gets a little harsh sometimes...
so long...

Posted - 27 Mar 2003 : 12:09:32 @Memtronic. It's not a business like attitude.. You can currently export the OFFICIAL website for a film (which was not listed) Using: _MOVIE_OFFICIALWEB_ (It does it in the All information Movie card) I was only asking because it meant that people could find out where the information about the movie came from. Also you can find other movies you might like (Amazon does an "If you liked this movie you may like the following") I enjoy watching films.. My friends enjoy watching films.. It means we can find more films we enjoy.. I am sorry you took offence to my question. |

Posted - 27 Mar 2003 : 00:36:17 Memtronic:
I see your point "why the hell would you need to go to the imdb home page to see the info on the movie when its already all on the movie card", but... its not all on the movie card... not all the actors... all the info and notes are on the cards that get exported... I could see it to be a more useful link than some of the ones on the cards already. just a link to the homepage of imdb's site for the movie... well, there might be some things I dont know, whatever you were saying about ripping and boards, didnt get that part.. seems like an innocent request to me to have the link to the home page of the movie.
Even though you see more usefullness in the stuff that you put on the cards, some people have special needs (for example my location need)..., and full respect if you know of some way for this to be abused by making some option available... dont let it be available.

Posted - 26 Mar 2003 : 21:03:21 @Akira
WHY would you like to have ANY link exported??? ...We (Alessio + Me) = see really NO NEED for things like that exported!
@ALL We have written down all possible info-fields, picked the ones we thought are usefull for export... and the RESULT = the LIST I have posted in this thread!
WE DON'T WANT ANY LINKS / PRICE / ETC. TO BE EXPORTED! WE SUPPORT YOUR "HOBBY" BUT SURE NOT ANY BUSINESS LIKE ATTIDUTES!!! WE HAVE OUR REASONS TO DO SO!
...yes "you" don't want it for things like that... BUT a lot of other people simply get a very easy way for misuse!
We are sure not dumb... we know a lot of those "cracker" boards / sites / etc. ...and YES we know Emule / Kazaar TOO!!!
Sorry if you are one of those restricted accidently!!!
@Wizard_X "Or maybe memtronic thinks this to be a good Idea and will make a card with that field in it..." => SORRY! ...the actual moviecards contain everything I personally consider useful.
so long...

Posted - 26 Mar 2003 : 19:22:31 This seems to be a logical place to add a question.. I see you can export the official webpage for a film.. is it possible to export (for example) the link to the IMDB one?
Akira: Not that I know much about this, though I do know a little, are you talking about exporting the "web link" field under the "details tab"?
If thats what you are talking about, you probably just need a movie card with that field in it, but looking at the fields that MemTronic pasted earlyer in this conversation... it doesnt look like its in yet (just like my location field). You'll need to ask for that field added to the program and then it will be possible to adjust one of the fields in one of MemTronics cards to display that instead of one of the other fields that it has (same thing as I wanted to do with my locations). Or maybe memtronic thinks this to be a good Idea and will make a card with that field in it...

Posted - 26 Mar 2003 : 00:01:56 Like I said in my last reply, I do understand your point and I am not saying that you are incorrect, but all I was saying is that since it is a FACT, that lots of people are doing this... maybe you guys should consider making lots of builds to reduce the amount of loss that comes from these acts (which surely are immoral and will reduce the amount of software/freware that will be developed). Im not arguing your point, but merely pointing out a way for you guys to reduce the amount of abuse for you guys.
Take care, wiz |
