"for most things in Germany you can`t even use it" => Thanks for stating this out!
"I also wondered if managing my AudioCDs was possible" => If you want it "smart" (reading CD-TEXT if available otherwise connect to CDDB) __ ...mh.. this will take a while to become implemented... __ and Alessio (as always) is currently working hard (really) to solve some problems we have with the NEW FEATURES for the HTML-DB! __ (the sort-filters I have mentioned in another thread) __ then he has to fix / improve some other things some people are waiting for... __ so to say = generally it IS POSSIBLE... __ BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO BECOME REALITY! __ please take in consideration = there IS a priority-list and everything CAN only be done ONE AFTER ANOTHER! __ the "sort-filters" for example were on this list FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW! __ because as you might have noticed = there were some important fixes to be done FIRST!
finally = Alessio will let you know IF / WHEN / HOW it will be available! (HE is the keeper of the holy priority-list! ...hehehe)

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 14:32:05 @Mem:
I also have such a cuecat and for most things in Germany you can`t even use it 'cause most items (barcodes) lead to nowhere. I think for most european user this thing is a piece of crap (if you don`t crack it, where can I find a crack for it????) I also wondered if managing my AudioCDs was possible. Is there a way to do that or is anything planned to do so?
Kind regards,

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 14:01:11 so please tell me...
"I am in the process of adding a couple thousand movies" NOT to mention the Music-CDs...
...as "private use customer" = HOW is this possible?! => For me there are 2 possibilities: 1. You run a business 2. You are selling copies ...to get all that money necessary for THOUSANDS OF MOVIES!!!
a little example: assuming you have bought 1.000 DVDs each for JUST 10,-$ RESULT: we are talking about 10.000,- $
to the scanner: YOU have made a "cool" deal with the scanners for 5,- bucks... WHAT about other people (users) out there?!
"The SOFTWARE has been CRACKED by several people to allow you to use it as a standard scanner. So both the reader and SOFTWARE are FREE." => AHHHH... I UNDERSTAND!
"How this knowledge makes me a professional, I don't know. Wish I could get paid for it though. . .:-)" => YES! ...you should! __ We ALL try to make money out of our skills!
"At some point, I very well may contribute something for all users, but seeing as I've only had the program for 2 days, I think it is a little early." => But NOT that early to post your "little" wishes! = I UNDERSTAND!
"But if you are one of the developers, then I am amazed that this is the way you are trying to develop brand loyalty." => WHY? = We are NOT Microsoft! ...just "little guys" !!! __ eMM speaks for ITSELF = WE DON'T NEED ANY LYING MARKETING STRATEGIES!
"As for needing to learn to read, YOU FIRST!: >"We really think = there is NO REASON to stay with OPERA!!! >(Living with f*cking ads or pay for THAT CRAP is really NO CHOICE!)" => WHAT's wrong with that?
"Even though Mozilla masquerades as an open source project" => WHAT you are talking about?
"("Talkback enabled builds allow transmission of crash data back to Netscape") thereby helping those that seek to deprive me of my fair use copyright privileges" => NOBODY HAS TO DOWNLOAD THOSE BUILDS! = EVEN YOU! __ There are NON-Talkback enabled builds ALSO!!! __ But really = YOU have a BIG problem with reading / understanding things...
"Oh, and AOL is evil." => YES of course... and Microsoft ...and Netscape ...every forum using COOKIES ...Macromedia (they FORCE you to download THEIR FLASH and THIS for JUST watching FLASH-CONTENT!!!!) ...etc
"Nothing else appears worth responding to" => Why not say: "oh sorry... I haven't read anything before posting here. Otherwise I would have noticed that there ARE SO MUCH PEOPLE CONTRIBUTING for FREE and that it is such a QUALITY FOR FREE. (which makes every "pay for crap" discussion a ride through hell) ...and I would have realized that I cannot await everybody jumping up to please me, I have to READ FIRST about the ALREADY existing FEATURES!"
"I have no idea who I am talking to, nor do I care" => Yes... me too __ If I don't care which beast may be in the hole I am sticking __ my hand right in = I don't have to wonder if it gets bitten off!
so long...

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 11:41:44 I was wondering where that whole professional thing came from. Nothing else appears worth responding to, but for anyone who is interested in the bar code thing, Radio Shack (at least used to) give out FREE "Cuecats". Cuecats are little bar code readers that look like cats. Originally, you were supposed to be able to scan bar codes in magazines, and use that to take you directly to the advertisers' web site.
The software has been cracked by several people to allow you to use it as a standard scanner. So both the reader and software are free. I think that Cuecat went under recently, so you may have to look a little harder (I just picked up 3 of them on Ebay for $5 total). Although there are several software decoders for the output, I would recommend "Catnip".
Anyone who wants to see how well this works, go to www.cedmagic.com. They have developed an Excel Spreadsheet that allows you to scan in all of the UPC codes of your CED videodiscs, and then run a macro to turn the codes into names.
I was just wondering if I could scan in the UPC codes with my FREE scanner, rather than typing in all of the names, before I imported info from the web.
How this knowledge makes me a professional, I don't know. Wish I could get paid for it though. . .:-)
OK, I tried not to respond, but:-) At some point, I very well may contribute something for all users, but seeing as I've only had the program for 2 days, I think it is a little early. Frankly, I have no idea who I am talking to, nor do I care. But if you are one of the developers, then I am amazed that this is the way you are trying to develop brand loyalty.
As for needing to learn to read, YOU FIRST!: >"We really think = there is NO REASON to stay with OPERA!!! >(Living with f*cking ads or pay for THAT CRAP is really NO CHOICE!)
PS Opera is the better browser choice, if only to keep from supporting AOL Time Warner. Even though Mozilla masquerades as an open source project, according to their own website, data collection still goes back to Netscape, ("Talkback enabled builds allow transmission of crash data back to Netscape") thereby helping those that seek to deprive me of my fair use copyright privileges. Oh, and AOL is evil. |

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 10:34:44 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
"Since Alessio is not Microsoft, and obviously does not have an extensive research and development team, I thought I would help him out..."
1. Alessio is not Microsoft... => SO you have to pay JUST 10$ for QUALITY instead 249,- for CRAP!
2. OBVIOUSLY does not have an extensive research and development team... => HOW DO YOU KNOW!!!? ...mister WISEGUY! Only because some guys are working on enhancements FOR FREE = DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE GUYS ARE CHEAP in real life!
3. Oh dude... HELPING by BEGGING for hardcore features! = HAHAHAHAHAH! => You have read the forum = SO you should know to whom you are talking to! IF you really wanted to HELP = YOU WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED SOMETHING FOR ALL USERS LIKE WE (PurpleBytes) !!!
4. "Sorry for trying to help out "the little guy"... => Better watch your mouth! It was ME offending you = NOT Alessio !!!
5. "Just because you aren't willing to pay for quality software (see your Netscape/Opera tirade elsewhere in this forum), doesn't mean that others are that cheap..." => DUDE = you are MIXING THINGS LIKE WILD!!!! ___and THIS statement SHOWS = that YOU are even NOT ABLE to READ!
6. "What exactly makes me a "professional customer" anyway?" => "Can I import by UPC code using a bar code scanner?" ___Dude...such devices cost more than anybody here is able to spent ___for a "hobby" !!!
7. "I would have been willing to pay more for a product that does these things" => SO GO ON...MAIL Alessio ...and TELL HIM WHAT YOU WILL PAY TO HIM ..."the little guy"... FOR ALL THAT "hobby" FEATURES!

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 09:38:52 How rude.
I'm sorry if I sounded demanding, the website asked for input and feature requests and that is what I though I would do. Of course, I didn't expect to be attacked for it. Since Alessio is not Microsoft, and obviously does not have an extensive research and development team, I thought I would help him out with suggestions to make his (already very well written) program a little bit more functional.
Sorry for trying to help out "the little guy".
What exactly makes me a "professional customer" anyway? Do I have more movies than you? If I only had a few movies, why would I need a database to keep track of them? And yes, even though it is only for "Private Use", I would have been willing to pay more for a product that does these things. Just because you aren't willing to pay for quality software (see your Netscape/Opera tirade elsewhere in this forum), doesn't mean that others are that cheap. |

Posted - 09 Jan 2003 : 01:26:08 ...oh...

Tell us = HOW MANY BUCKS you are willing TO PAY for THAT FEATURES... ...and WE will tell you = WHEN you will get them!
