Hello all.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction on how to go about doing this.

I am manually adding titles to my database. The movie information works well. However, I have problems with some of the Actor information. Specificatlly, I can not get an image to "stick". When I use the Cover Browser to open a picture, the picture shows in the block until I leave that particular actor. It seems the database does not "remember" manually added pictures in the Actor tab. I tried changing the name before importing the picture but that did not work either. I also tried using the "Set First" button but it still did not work.

Also, before a picture is added, the graphic says "No Cover Selected/Click Here to Import". On the Movie tab, clicking this graphic opens the Cover Browser dialogue. However, on the Actor tab, it opens the graphic in an image viewer.

Being new to the program, I am not sure if I need to post this in the "Suggestions/New Features" forum. If so, please tell me and I will. My question: is there a way to have the Movie and Actor tabs recognize one another? For example, if I add movies to an actor's Filmography, is it possible for eMM to highlight those films listed in the Movie database? Consequently, can eMM highlight actors for a particular movie so I can tell which actors are already in the Actors database and which need to be added?

I have discovered no answers in searching the help file as well as the forums. If I have overlooked this information, please let me know.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Thanks for all the feedback. I finally realized the Actor list in the Movie tab was just a text box. However, when I read I could highlight an actor's name in the Movie tab and search for all movies featuring that actor, I thought maybe there would be some way to do more. I guess a wish list item for me would be to be able to highlight an actor's name or list of names in the Movie tab and have a right-click option to add each name to the Actor's database.

As for the apostrophe in Actor's names, it must apply to other characters as well. When I tried to use brackets ( [] ), it did the same thing. That is when I ended up using parentheses ( () ).

Again, thanks for the responses. And have a good one wherever you are.

I have the same problem as described in the initial post.

I'll try to describe the bug, so you are able to find it :)

When I try to manually add pictures to an actor, the program doesn't "remember" this picture, and it doesn't import the picture to the emm\Photos Folder.
The entry "Picture" shows the correct filename, though. (e.g. "Arnold-Schwarzenegger.jpg" *g*) but the picture isn't copied to the Photos-Folder.

When I press "Set First" instead of Import, the entry "Picture" changes the the filename of the file i was trying to import ("arny.jpg" or whatever), and sometimes (not always) in the configuration the "Photo Directory" changes to the path where this picture is. Because of this all the other pictures in the emm\Photos - Folder couldn't be found anymore and I have to enter the correct path (emm\Photos) again to be able to see all the other actors photos again.

So it seems there are two problems, first: when clicking "Import", the picture isn't copied the the Photos-Directory (because when i manually copy the pictury after this, all works fine!),
and second: when clicking "Set First" the configuration path is changed acidentally.

Hope this helps :) If you need anymore info about this bug i'm happy to help :)

cya, Jojo

Unfortunately, the way the Movie & Actor modules interact is another issue I am trying to solve. It seems the "Show all movies of this actor" feature uses the actor's name instead of ID number (if there is one). I have several actors listed as first name only. For example, if I search for an actor named "Jeremy", I get results with his movies as well as movies for Jeremy Northam, Jeremy Irons, etc. The only workaround I have discovered thus far is to put a number after first-name-only actors -- "Jeremy (1)". At first I tried with brackets -- "Jeremy [1]" -- but apparently, eMM did not like that.

Kind of a kludge, I know, but it works for now.

One other thing: does anyone have actors in their database with non-alphanumeric characters in their name (such as Hugh O'Brian)? If so, when you double-click on the name in the movie module or use the "Find" option on the left, does a list of movies show? When I do this, my list is always blank.

This is how I think it works.
When you use the "Show ALL movies of this Actor" function the program searches thru the "Starring" field
of all the movies to try and match the name you entered.
So it actually matches both the actor and the characters name.
There's no "direct connections" in the database between the actor and the movies he/she starred in.
The character ' is reserved for the program somehow and can't be used in your search.
For example if you use "Show ALL movies of this Actor" and search for:
Al 'Red Dog' Weber
then the program won't find any movies and the same applies when you search among actors.
To get around this I usually use "Show ALL movies of this Actor" and then on the "Movie" tab I change:
Al 'Red Dog' Weber
in the "Find Actor" field to read:
Red Dog
It works ok when the actor has an unusual name like in this case "Red Dog".
When the actor is named "Hugh O'Brian" it doesn't work that good because then all you could search for is:
Hugh O
or
Brian

When you point your mouse at the "Find" field on the "Actors" tab it shows:
"This Search Will Be applied to the field you specify; you can select which operator to use (AND or OR)"
So I guess you should be able to search for:
Hugh O AND Brian
but I don't know how to set the AND or OR. Anybody else know how that works?

Thanks Mawu. I was not sure if I was missing something.

I think this is a really good program for tracking movie files and look forward to watching it develop.

@GbMedusa

The cover import seems to be a little bit buggy. I've the same problem here with 2.6b9.
Alessio, can you have a look at it?

Movie/Actor database recognition: at the moment you only can make a right-click on an actor in the actor's list in the actor's dabase and select "Show all movies of this actor" (same feature in movie database: double-click on an actor's name in starring shows you all movies of this actor in movie database).

Bye
Mawu

Hello?
Hello?
Is anyone out there?

Did I post this in the wrong forum? If so, my apologies and I will move it.

Or should I send this to tech support?
