Posted - 03 Jun 2008 : 06:41:52 Hello,
Sorry for the frustation..I have had XMM almost for the last 1 yr. Loaded 800 movies in it. Now I want to used the XMM data into one of my HTPC software and I am stuck.
Please help me... 1. I want to export in XML format. Any HTPC software that I pick wants XML as standard.
2. I tried CSV format but the have been having problem with escape characters such as ; or # are sometimes present in movie description.
3. Actor Name & Role are exported as one field with some funny character as seperator. I think its |Actor name & Actor Role&|..something on this line. Its send as one field even if I just want Actor Name.
4. Have not been able to figure out if I can execute XMM in command mode to have export done (particular format to a particular directory). I would like call XMM from a script and have XMM export the XML to a file. Want the whole process automated so I can import the data into MY HTPC OF CHOICE.
I read that a media center plugin is in works. I don't know the details so please excuse me. Is it for MSFT media center. No thank you. I use third party HTPC software and would like to use XMM data with it.
I do relaize that the developer is busy and provides support based on the available time and bandwidth. XMM is awesome but what is the use of XMM if I am not able to used the data locked in XMM.
Please, Please, Give me the freedome to export XMM data in XML. Also if you can provide answers to the above questions.

XMM is awesome but its data is pretty much locked down. All I want is openness in XMM.
1. XML export..(foll all the tables...particularly Movies, Actor & TV table) 2. Fix for Actor Actor Name & Actor Role as separate field. 3. Ability to get XML export from outside of XMM.( Command line execution to have XML file exported.
Regards, Shaurya
Thank you Alessio for your response. At the minimum, can you please address the point 2 above. The actor name, role and imdb ID are all stored as 1 field and I am not able to export it as separate field.

Usually I try to follow a roadmap, that consist on major things to do, but I often spent the time in bug fixing. I will try to prepare it in future.
Thank you,

Posted - 04 Jun 2008 : 05:54:26 Hello WizF,
Thanks for your resposne. Yes I did try exprot from Access. Two Probelms-
1. The Actor & Actor Role are still come out as one field or one tag/markup in XML. I Only want Actor or Actor and Role in separate field. Without doing lot of maniputlation/transformation, it doesn't appear to be possible. (I could be doing wrong something..Please enlighten)
2. I am trying to setup an automated way where I can call XMM via command line (in a script) and have it export XML. Or some kind of sheduling where XMM outputs XML files into a particular directory on a specified frequency.
I like XMM very much but feel that all the data is LOCKED inside it. What's the point of cataloging/organizing and spending all the time if I can't use it in any way.
I would love to hear how people use XMM. What's their main motive of XMM other that cataloging. What do other do with the data after they have catalouged everything.
Plea to the developer:- You have made a great product. Please make it open (open means openness/connectivity not opensource).

Posted - 03 Jun 2008 : 18:51:39 Just a thought, have you tried exporting the data from within access itself.? The XML export should fix all the issues you have with escape characters etc. If you don't have Access, I'll be happy to export it for you.
