I would very much like to see a liter version of XMM. Over the years, XMM is getting bigger and bigger, supporting stuff I don't care about. I just need a simple list of movies, support for imdb and covers, export data features, database tools and that's about it.

I don't care about iphone, media library, shelves, play panel, statistics, loan manager, video tutorials etc. I'm also very bodered by the "mediacenterdir" folder.

Thanks

Oh, by the way: I hate XMM 7 , I went back to 6

The computer i use for xmm is an old P4 3.0 1gb memory...and its got vista on it haha...i've got file monitor disabled, actors pictures disabled, tree view and statistics are closed...and to me it runs pretty quick...i got about 1200 movies added to my database...there are a lot of features in xmm...but doesnt seem to make it slow at all. The program itself is bigger...but i doubt space is an issue these days...can you even buy a computer with a hdd less than 500gb?

Well I'm not a programer, so maybe things are not as easy as I thought, I wasn't thinking about disabeling features, I wasn't thinking about creaating a whole new program, I just thought that is possible to extract some basic features from existing 7.0 and make an liter version out of it. If that is not possible, it's ok, I know I'm not the only user...

I would be happy with Excel, if it could import data from imdb.com This feature is (almost) the only reason I'm actually using XMM. I also like to add covers and the export features are great, especially MovieCards export. Database utilities are also usefull, besides that, I'm not using anything else. I appreciate your effort, Alession, to make a better program and I know a lot of people are using it in full. I just speak my mind.

This kind of disagrements happens with new programs - just take a look at Vista critisicm, Office 2007.... some people like it, some people needs some adjusting, some people will never like it. I don't like spending a bunch of time after each upgrade or installation, do disable 90% of functions. Even with most feautures disabled, I think XMM still needs a lot of time to load. I hate XMM 7.0 (Office 2007 like) menus... but I guess I'll have to go with the flow eventually. But for now, I'm sticking with 6.x, I would be even happier with some previous releases, but I don't want to install a really older version, cause I don't know how will that work on Vista.

Thank you

Yes, a configurable setup would be great, Mike.
Maybe Alessio will do it in next release.
But I'm firstly waiting for V7 non-beta! As some functions are still waiting to be finished...
And a new description for the script engine is something I'm awfully awaiting, too.
Ale should have some clones of himself ;)

Maybe someday you'll need one of these needless things and you'll be the first who cry for it!
Believe me, I know it too well...
I don't wanna disrespect anyone for his opinion, but you can't make it well for everyone.
So Alessio, keep on working this way. It's totally right for most of the users!!!

I thank the solution that would satisfy the most users, would be a modular approach where you could select the features you want at the time of install. Then only those parts get installed. That is the approach most commercial software takes.
For myself, I just use what I like/need, and ignore the rest.

Guys, I think you need an excel spreadsheet, not XMM

Seriously, the new XMM 7.x is more configurable than the old 6.x.

If you do not want mini statistic just close the panel (there is the little close button), if do not need the Shelves just do not open it. Ther are much users that like all these things.

About iPhone, you really do not know iPhone??? I cannot believe this!

About Mediacenter dir, you can disable it in the Configuration window.

I agree with darjanp. All I need is a list of movies that can download from IMDB. There's a lot of extra stuff in XMM that I could do without.

I don't care either about iphone (what's this?), media library (?), shelves (who needs it?), play panel (don't care), statistics (never use it), loan manager (I don't loan movies), video tutorials (yawn) etc. I'm also very bothered by the "mediacenterdir" folder. (me too)

Hi darianp,

you talk about features, which are either
- already included in 6.x
- are included only as plugin
- can be disabled
or aren't used, unless you click a button.

So what exactly do you expect? Disabling a feature another user maybe wants to have? Creating an extra version more simple is a bit time consuming, and I hope Alessio saves the time for something else (family etc...)

The only thing I could imagine is something like more modularity, so that certain features aren't loaded at all, if disabled. But this sounds very fundamental to me, also a lot of work...

Kind regards
ternot

Hi,

I am really surprise that you go back to 6.x!

I think that 7.x is a step beyond the old 6.x. You can disable the mediacenter dir creation in the configuration window, you can speed up the HTML Loading by just switch off the actor's pictures ( http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5266 )

there are many things that you can "optimize" in the 7.x...

Alessio
