Maybe a little bit provocative thread title, but although there is much legitimate critique I think the new xMM 7 will be developed into the right direction. We all have to face the fact the xMM still is a beta version, where not all features from xMM 6 are back and not all of the new features are fully elaborated at the moment. And we also have to consider that all the feature requests and bug reports that are posted criss cross through all threads in the forum (it's difficult to keep track of it) can't be implemented in a short period of time. People always want a focus on core features but in the next sentence they have an urgent feature request that only a minorty of users will ever need. xMM always was a kind of"egglayingwoolmilksow". It never will be possible to reach the easiness of one-online-database-solutions, but on the other hand with xMM we are much more flexible. However, it's important not to dissipate the energies. For example it's not useful to offer support of every single media center program - focus should be on the already existing solutions and users, who not want to use it, should not have disadvantages. It's nice that I'll have the option to use the browser plugin in future - but at the moment I really hate the creation of hundreds of mediacenter files, although I don't use the media browser plugin.

I think the new version by all means concentrated on many core features (interface, portability, better grid, advanced filters). The implementation of ribbon interface was a move into the right direction. If you are familiar with the new MS Office the changeover from xMM 6 to 7 is no problem and brings all the features - to some extent - under control. xMM is no program for people who only need a kind of extended excel sheet for movie managment. The possibilty to create custom layouts is also great. But there are two things I dislike concerning the interface:

1. Quickedit View: the old one was better arranged and more "compact". There is the possibilty to customize the layout of the quickedit view now, but I have to admit that for me this is very cryptic. Right click brings me to the customization layout window. In the layout window there many parameters of the data fields displayed that are difficult to understand and - even more important - can't be edited. This should be more user-friendly. The other point is that the fields can't be changed in the way I want. For example: an important data field for me is the "features" field (I'm a dvd collector). In xMM 6 this field was bigger, has scrollbar and an integrated text editor. In xMM 7 I can't modify it in that direction.

2. "inner logic": It's nice to switch between html card and quickedit window for movies. For the other "database elements" actor, boxset, episode I expect the same: a html card view and a quickedit view. For series/episodes and boxsets/movies a split view like it was realized for series in xMM 7 (split view as an option).

Other things that should be improved:

- advanced filters: possibilty to save custom filter creations (should be accessable in dropdown menue)
- search field is a little bit too small
- image exchange between picture view and back cover should be possible
- cover managment: drag and drop (It's a pain to sort the covers when you have to move them step by step)
- data fields: maybe this is a request for xMM 7.5 or higher. For dvd collectors there should be some improvements concerning better handling of audio/language/subtitle stuff and better multi-disc support
- statistic should be re-implemented
- boxsets: assignment of single episodes or seasons to a boxset
- filtering of scripts (like in xMM 4.8 only better)

My favourite request since xMM 1.0 :

- printout of dvd cover

Core features that should be improved in the near future:
- report generator for printout
- improved export (including export for actors and series)
- import/exchange of actors and series data between databases

Bye Byte and Happy Conding

@Alessio

Can you please provide the same features to the "features" field than in 6.8 (size, scrollbar, text editor)?

Hi Mawu,

Thank you for yor words, as you know I am trying to develop XMM the best I can. The request/wishlist of users are really much and satisfy all is really a pain

From the next release will be possible turn off the creation of _mediacenterdir,

I am working at this time to better integrate movies with actors. In the future should be possible, with just a click, add movies to database directly from the filmography of an actor, and will be possible import the info by just pressing the "Reimport Info from internet" button.

Also the actors will be imported easily, with directlinks saved directly when you use the script for movies.

It's not easy to explain this with words, I will soon post a video

Thank you all!

Ale
