Hi. I apologize in advance that this is probably a newbie question:

I know I can select an episode from 1-10 under the 'Play' button, but I have numerous TV shows with episodes going over 5 seasons.

How can I select and play a specific episode of a TV Show?

How can I also have the player continue playing each following episode similar to windows media manager?

Thanks,
ttrenchj

404 - I just have forwarded your problem to Ale...

I always open as Administrator Rights.

Cool, well, I hope you find a solution.

Thanks

Just for testing: try it with starting XMM with AdminRights...
If that doesn't help I do not know a solution yet.

hi JDommi. I tried that, both ways (multiple times), and never does the file link happen (and no 'X' in the 'Media' column just a blue-boxed '?' symbol) nor does it show in in the 'Add/Edit Episodes' window, 'Files' tab 'Add File' window...no matter how many times I try.

I do not doubt the process has worked for you successfully, it is just happening that way for me (using Windows 10) and eXtreme Movie Manager 9.0.0.

Again, thank you for your patient help!

Why does it not work?

Just select the TVShow in the grid and do a doubleclick on it. That brings you the window Add/Edit TV Show.
Now go to the tab Episodes and click on Add Episodes to TV Show by Selecting Files From Hard Disk. In the file requester you can chose all episodes (multiselect!) you want to add to the TV Show. It doesn't matter if you have already imported the info for each file or if you will get the data after that.

The FileBot freeware works great!

I have attempted every variation of your 'Question 2:' responses with zero success. I can find no process that allows bringing episodes in that populates the file links for both the 'Add/Edit Episode' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window as well as the main 'Add/Edit TV Show' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window at the same time.

Adding the file links to the 'Add/Edit TV Show' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window is fairly quick and painless.

Adding each episode to the 'Add/Edit Episode' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window is much more work as each needs to be added manually and individually...no way to add as a group. The episode(s) adding is necessary to support selecting individual episodes to play instead of just starting from episode 1.

Again, I appreciate your patience in helping.

Short answers:

Question 1: I always process whole seasons/shows with the freware program "FileBot" to rename each episode the same naming convention. I don't know every kind of naming that is working correctly as I have always used the same even since before I even have known XMM.

Question 2: You can go two ways. At first importing all info inclusive every season and then add the movie files by the device scanner or beginning with the device scanner. The episodes are assigned correctly to the database. Maybe except of a few differeneces when pilot episodes are separated into 2 parts or vice versa.
Which way you prefer you have to check out yourself.
When adding new/whole TVShows with multiple seasons I always set the device scanner to the main season folder and let import the files. Then I use a script to get all information.
When adding only one season to an existing TV Show I add the episodes using the edit window of the specific Show -> Add episodes from hd...
That may not be the easiest way but I manage it successfully that way.

As it's still really early in the morning *lol* I hope I have explained everything understandable.

@JDommi: Please know in advance that my following is in no way intended to express unhappiness with eXtreme Movie Manager 9.0.0. My intent is to identify what I have found as I work through issues, in this case selecting and playing episode(s) of a TV Show and having the player continue playing each following episode similar to windows media manager.

Your previous directions 1, 2, and part of 3 worked, right up to ‘Out of this GridView you can select multiple entries and by the context menu you can play all selected files - when any is assigned to.
That is where the process stopped.

When I select any single or multiple episode(s) the 'Play' button on the 'Main' toolbar turns gray.

After some playing around ("In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.") I found that in order for the process to work, the content of each episode(s) 'Add/Edit Episode' window, 'Files' tab, 'Add File' window must have a linked file, which I gather is what you meant by ‘when any is assigned to’.

It is not enough that the linked files are showing in the main TV Show 'Add/Edit TV Show' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window.

In a previous topic I posted: ‘Information’, ‘Adding TV Shows and Episodes’, started on 30JUN16; I followed all directions, including http://www.mediafire.com/download/se5x7fc8ovi62fa/TVShows.doc. I renamed my file(s) in accordance with the directions and found they would be entered in the database, but without relation to the episode name, season number, episode number, nor any contents in the 'Add/Edit Episode' window ‘Main’, ‘Details’, Cast and Crew’, ‘Media’, ‘Custom’, and ‘Details 2’.

The 'Add/Edit TV Show' window 'Files' tab window did show the correct file link; however, when then reviewing the 'Add/Edit Episode' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window, the file link is not shown.

So I guess I missed something in your 30JUN16 reply:

‘The scripts can't store the link to the media files as it proceeds only the info from the internet.
And the device scanner only adds the files and the title to the database.
So don't expect to get both in one single step...’

Questions:

1 My file naming convention has been, as an example: Fringe s1e1 Pilot.avi (you can see I did not use dashes or add zeroes before the season and episode numbers). This TV Show has 89 episodes. Is there any quick and non-tedious way of renaming the files without going 1-by-1 (which I have done before in an effort to follow your directions on 30JUN16)?

2 How can I add a TV Show with multiple seasons and episodes? Do I:

1) Add the TV Show and then ignore the resultant episode(s) listing, then
2) go back and edit the show to add the episode(s) listing, then
3) add the correctly named episode files to match with the 'Add/Edit TV Show' window ‘Episodes’ tab ‘Add Episodes to TV Show by Selecting Files From Hard Disk’ button, and then confirm the adds worked by seeing:

a) a ‘X’ shape in the 'Add/Edit TV Show' window ‘Episodes’ tab ‘Media Icon’ column, then
b) the 'Add/Edit TV Show' window 'Files' tab 'Add Files' window showing all of the correctly imported file links, and then
c) then going to ‘Edit’ the content of each episode(s) 'Add/Edit Episode' window, 'Files' tab, 'Add File' window to confirm the correct imported file link?

Thank you for your patience in helping.

Thanks!
JDommi Posted - 16 Jul 2016 : 00:13:48
yes, that's right.
ttrenchj Posted - 15 Jul 2016 : 22:29:50
cool...Directions 1 and 2 are clear. Direction 3 is clear up to the 'context menu' item.

Does 'context menu' mean right-click on any of the highlighted selections and select play?

Thanks,
ttrench

Go to the Treeview and click on the +-Symbol before "TV Show".
Now select the desired show. In the GridView you will see all episodes.
Out of this GridView you can select multiple entries and by the context menu you can play all selected files - when any is assigned to.
