This program is getting more and more frustrating to use. Grrrrrrr.... My next bug:

I have all three Austin Powers movies on DVD. Goldmember and International Man of Mystery both continue to point to the same cover. I have tried renaming each movie and importing each manually and still they use the same filename.

I am also having this problem with the original "Dune" and the "Dune Mini-Series". Both have different titles yet they do not find (or use) different covers. And "Matrix" and "Matrix: Reloaded" have the same problem, yet "Matrix: Revolutions" does not. I am baffled about why this is happening. Renaming the movie has no effect.

Why is there no way to choose a file and have it use your own filename? The auto-renaming is royal pain in the #@$@*%&.

@FreakBrother

Thank you for the nice description, I will integrate it into the extended help file.

The interface is imho not bad, but maybe you should work on the following points:
-WWW-Import: Your idea of wizard is very good. Maybe we collect some good chain scripts and integrate it into this wizard (like Xtropys new one). Another suggestion: display of country flag icons in the script list to identify suitable scripts right away.
-Cover managment: see this thread
-Arrangment of data fields: maybe - when the new fields are added in 2.7 - you think over a better arrangment of the data fields
-Export: moviecards, XHTML-compatible moviecards, GeneralDB2HTML-templates - very confusing for a newbie.

Bye Bye

Thanks a million... great response :)

You're welcome, glad I could help
This program is very good and has a lot of features etc. but as Alessio said earlier
quote:
the software is hard to use because of the interface is not user friendly.

which means that sometimes it's hard to find that little setting that you're desperatly looking for.

Wow... what a reply! I did just as you said and it worked perfectly. Had no idea I could manually change the name since I thought I had to use cover manager. Thanks a million... great response :)

I wouldn't call this a bug since it's just the way the program works.
Let's see if I understood it correctly.
The movie is already added to the database and you want to specify a new filenamesequence to use.
An example with the mini-series "Dune":
1) Select the mini-series "Dune" in the list.
2) Change to the "Files" tab.
3) At the bottom of the tab you'll find "Cover" with the value "Dune.jpg" (or "none.jpg" if you haven't added a cover yet).
Change that value to "Dune_Mini-Series.jpg".
4) Save the changes.
5) Now click the button "Cover Manager", click "Add a Cover" and browse and select the picture you want to import.
Now the picture gets imported with the new filename "Dune_Mini-Series.jpg" and if you add another one it will be named ""Dune_Mini-Series_1.jpg" etc, etc.

Hope that was what you were looking for

You are right, the software is hard to use because of the interface is not user friendly.

I am trying to study another way, but it's not easy because of the high number of features.

For example, the import engine have a lots of options and scripts, people that use the first time are scared about this and don't know exactly "how to proceed". I think that a "import wizard" will be the right solutions (maybe expert people can choose to use the old import window).

A good thing is also put very much "help buttons" in every window, so user can have a quick reference.

If you have more ideas and bug report please post topics, because are really useful for me to improve this software

Thank you again,

Alessio

Alessio, the program is great, don't get me wrong. As I stated in my post I wouldn't spend the time posting bugs on the forums if I didn't want to help improve it. I also understand that you are not a 100 man operation and time is valuable to everyone. Some of the bugs I posted are major and I hope are looked at soon but others are just an inconvenience. I've modified and played with scripting and will be sending you a few "improvements" to help with your workload.

I have had very few program crashes and the program is very stable. Like I say, a lot of my posts are to inform not to bash you or the program. A few tweaks and fixes here and there and things will be smoother. You seem to have a lot of people that want you to succeed (myself included) and my posts are in effort to help in that respect. I read on the CNET forums a few comments that the program is too hard to use and understand so I am sure others feel this way too. Once I learnt the program I couldn't stand using another of the other 10 Movie catalog programs on my PC and removed them all.

Please don't take the bugs personally, it's just business.

Yes me too I want xmm will be the best and the most powerfull :)

I think I haven't yet used xmm 10hours in a day lol :)

That's fair with me...

Believe me I am not actively searching for bugs but I figure the dev's want this software to improve and customer feedback is the primary source of that information. I've spent hours writing down error codes and trying to isolate problems to help improve the product, not because I am bored :)

I maybe new but I have added almost 500 videos into the program from DVD, CD, DivX, Xvid, etc and have had to use every major function of the program. The first weekend I had this software, I used it 10+ hours per day. Now if I hated the program, would I waste my time doing that? Others have maybe used the program before and not found bugs but I doubt they are using the software 10 hours a day as well.

I have tried to make my posts re: bugs informative and factual as opposed to opinionated. When issues are fixed, I post a "Thank you". I have shown frustration only in a few isolated cases.

I appreciate your reply and no hard feelings. I want to see eXtreme Movie Nanager become the best out there and if I can help squash a few bugs to reach that goal, it will also help me and others just starting to use the program in the future (ie: more new customers).

Ok but you pay the soft 10$. You can't attemp the same result as a very expensive soft made by many people.

Yes it's cool to report bug to improve the soft and if I find bug I post too.
Sorry for me previous post that it was too aggressive... but some people post only to complain and with aggressive method.

Keep cool and that will be the same.

When somebody send an aggressive post, developper don't want to correct the bug... As consultant, I think you feel the same thing, doesn't it ?

Without ressentment ?

I stated in my first post on these forums that there needed to be more testing and people checking problems before the program is released. The response I got was to post on the forums. So what am I doing? I am posting on the forums.

If you buy a car and it breaks down every week, do you not have the right to discuss the matter with the company and if you do, getting a response like, "Why don't you build your own car?" is juvenille and extremely unprofessional. Maybe I voice my concerns because I want to improve the product whereas everyone else sits back and "accepts" the bugs.

The majority of my posts have been to help improve the product. Do I not have the right to get frustrated after posting my 20th or so bug post? I am a paid user and if the product is not performing the way it should be, I have a right to express concern. If this was freeware, I would have no right to "complain" as you say.

If you'd prefer I didn't post problems with the program, refund my money and I will gladly pursue using other products.

As for your enlightening suggestion, try renaming the image and adding it as a cover and see what happens to the image. It auto-renames again. If you don't have anything useful to say, I suggest you keep your mouth shut.

And yes, I am a computer consultant and work in the IT field, not that it matters.

If you can do better do it...
You use the soft for few days and you complain more than people use it since one or two years.
You have written 26 post and how many to complain ?
Are you computer scientist ?

You know you can rename the file name in windows explorer and associate each file to the movie.

At this time isn't possible. I will try to add in future releases.

Thank you!
