Hi,

I'm currently trying to build a ThinApp package out of XMM in an attempt to create a portable version that I can carry around with me on a USB stick (if you don't know ThinApp, it tries to capture the changes that were made to a system during installation by taking a snapshot of the system before and after installation and then builds an executable out of that).

I was able to create a package, but for some reason on my Vista system where I'm trying to use it XMM just freezes when I start the finished package. It stops right during startup in the progress window, with the last message shown there saying "Loading comboboxes completed."

On a second system (XP) it also freezes during startup and I can see that for some reasons an msiexec process comes up, possibly trying to install something and that process appears to take up CPU and hangs as well.

Both things are not very plausible to me, so my questions are
1.) Is there anything out of the ordinary that XMM tries to do after "Loading comboboxes", like creating external processes or something like that?
2.) Does XMM install any additional software in the background (maybe the codec pack or something like that?)

It may also be possible that there is something wrong with my capture of the .NET framework, and I can understand well if it is too much to support. But maybe there is an idea as to what might be the problem? Any hints would be appreciated!

Thanks alot,
Torsten

Thank you Carfesh!

You have to authenticate XMM in all computer you are using it. I am sorry but for now I cannot change this.

Thank you for the info, I am glad to know that 7.x finally is a portable application.

Please write something about XMM in forums dedicated to portable applications if you can.

Hi,

I can confirm that the problem has gone away in version 7. I'm still working out some minor issues, but for the most part the package appears to work fine - only thing that doesn't work is moving the registration information from one machine to another, apparently there's something about the local computer taken into account somehow that invalidates the registration when the sandbox is moved to another machine.

I hope I won't run into problems with too many online activations, but I think for now I can live with that.

BTW: version 7, though not completely translated, looks very slick and nice to me, nice work Alessio!

Thanks again,
Torsten

Hi Alessio,

I wasn't aware that there is a version 7, I still used version 6 in the packaging. I'll try it out with the new version and let you know!

Thanks alot,
Torsten

Hi Torsten

What release of XMM are you speaking? The new 7.x or the old 6.x?

Alessio
